Oh So Blue

Today’s stitch is a fun tramme with a wide blue base and two kinds of blue sparkle. A trifecta of blue, if you will! Win win (win)!

Today's stitch comes from Royal Peeps, a Zecca workshop I put together a couple summers ago. It uses Vineyard Silk, Silk Lame, and Fyre Werks on 18 mesh.

I used it for a tail on Royal Peeps. It would make great ground cover or a roof with Vineyard Silk (black lines) and a couple interesting matte threads, such as Lorikeet (aqua lines) and a perle cotton (turquoise lines). A more dramatic version, including Very Velvet, Kreinik Metallics, and Neon Rays would make great clothing. Consider flipping it 90 degrees and using it for wallpaper with lighter weight threads such as DMC Perle #8 (black lines), Kreinik Metallics Fine Braid (#8) (aqua lines), and a silk floss (turquoise lines).

A Note about Diagrams
I use color in diagrams to make them as clear as possible.  The primary function of different colored lines is to illustrate a stitch sequence.  For example, layering of colors demonstrates you add them in that order.  They can also provide ideas on how to integrate additional threads (one line for each color).  Or, you can use the same thread for all color lines.  That's where I encourage you to use your imagination for the space you are stitching!

Flip Flop

Today's #stitchingsunday is a riff on a post from last year.

She stitched up one of her new ornaments with a very recent #whimsicalwednesday stitch.  So, of course I love the stitch but I'm thrilled she flipped it on its side.  The stitched sample uses two plies of Soie D'Alger and a Sundance bead.

Karen's Diamond

Leave it to Karen Hennessey of Zecca to provide another clever take on a diamond stitch and have a wonderfully bright stitched example to go with it.

The stitch begins as your more traditional diamond with outer rows over three rows and a row over two in between the rows going over three.  But, she skips a row between the outer edges and that's where things get interesting.

Due to the many unique components of this stitch, this might be one stitch that I don't see with threads all of one color.  It almost NEEDS the multiple thread colors to add definition.  As an example, the oblique tied crosses in the center of the diamonds stand out in their own color.  I love how the diamonds are in a darker shade to help add to that definition.

#stitchingsunday

Welcome to our newest blog theme, #stitchingsunday.  #stitchingsunday is an addition to the existing rotation of #whimsicalwednesday and #smallspacesunday.  This new theme will highlight stitches from blog posts in current stitching projects.

Today's inaugural #stitchingsunday is one of my go-to stitches, a weave stitch.  The original post featured a slightly more glamorous version that included a matte and metallic thread combo.

Today's version aligns with the original stitch diagram but with a much more subtle application.  I used two plies of Soie D'Alger on 18-mesh for a very light look and feel on a background behind some very glamorous objects.  I wanted the objects to pop and not clash with the background.  Also, truth be told, I didn't want to invest the time in doing the background in plain needlepoint, which was a very viable (and good looking) option.

Diamonds. Duh.

As you know, I love diamond stitches for any number of reasons.  And, of course, my version of Pattern Stitching includes diamonds.

A classic approach is to utilize Plain Needlepoint in opposite directions, as illustrated by the diagram below.  This is a beautiful accent to any background or surface you want to minimize.  The stitched sample is the first version with Mandarin Floss on 18-mesh.

To dress it up a little, I created a second version with select stitches over two rows (far right).

I like the potential the second version represents.  I see all stitches in the same color, but the stitches over two rows in a different finish, especially metallic.  It's such a subtle touch that will make any area with this stitch recede but with a tiny sparkle that will still draw some attention to it.
